The performer of this organ recital was inspired by the motto "against the current" to explore four ideas: upstream along major German rivers, the Rhine and the Moselle (Boppard is located near Koblenz and the "Deutsches Eck," where the Moselle flows into the Rhine; from there, the program continues upstream along the Moselle); then: "against the current" in the form of little-known or completely unknown composers for organ (no Buxtehude, Bach, Mendelssohn, Reger, Widor, etc.); and finally: "against the current" through "staunchly Catholic" composers and, in part, themes (Marian hymns) within a Protestant context. St. Mary's Church. Kevelaer on the Lower Rhine, not far from the Dutch border, and Metz in France on the Moselle form the geographical cornerstones and are musically represented "against the current" of existing compositions through improvisations.
